Using
AK Interactive's
AK-023 Dark Mud thinned with
AK-011 White Spirit, a wash has been created to bring life to the wood grain. This simple method takes very little time and gives a very convincing effect!

As wood tends to wick moisture & rot, we must show this kind of weathering to create a realistic look. After laying down white mold with Humbrol Enamels, the apearance of rot & mold is created using
AK-026 Slimy Grime Dark.

To give a variety of tones to the moldy areas,
AK-014 Winter Streaking Grime is used.

As a final step in creating a moldy look to the edges of the wood panels,
AK-026 Slimy Grime Light is used to blend the previous steps as well as to give a moldy green filter to the underlying wood colors. By simply applying small amounts of this color to the edges of the moldy areas and gently pulling the color towards the center of each board with a brush dampened with
AK-011 White Spirit, we are able to blend our mold effects. These simple steps will create the appearance of mold that will show through underneath leaves, twigs, and debri that has accumulated around the edges and corners of the railcar. This effect will compliment wood fences & wood planks of ships & boats perfectly!
